11/11-12 Chobe River Boat
Monday morning, the 11th, early morning start for a fishing trip. Our guide Francis took myself and John Hall Host Jeremy. Spent about two and 1/2 hours, trolling, casting, and bottom fishing. Not so good for me, but Jeremy landed a really nice catfish. Fun!! Lots of wild life viewing.
Back for breakfast and then off for a 9:00am Water Safari. Wow, the viewing was incredible. Three hours or so and back to the boat for lunch. Most took another afternoon Water Safari trip at 4:00pm, but Shari and I chose to stay in. Nap time. Most said it was really hot. So glad we stayed in and relaxed. Evening closed with a wonderful lamb chop dinner, preceded by a presentation by the boat manager, area, history, culture, etc.
Sunday 11/12, an awesome day. Weather fantastic, although hot in the PM, but humidity is low so makes the heat tolerable. Fishing and Water Safaris repeat. Jeremy and I teamed up again. Four fish, three small Tiger Fish and one nice Catfish, again by Jeremy. Can’t beat him.
Returning from fishing to breakfast, and then a very special outing arranged to visit a local Village here in the interior of Africa, displaying their true culture and life style. Livelihood is primarily fishing. Generational culture is passed down from one generation to the another. This includes the traditions of marriage, medicine, housing, construction, etc. The Village had only 27 residents, but the surrounding area has maybe up to 1,000. A young man wishing a bride must offer a price for her to the mother / parents. Typically Cows are the trade of value. The higher number of cows the more value the bride. Sometimes Brides can be very costly. Hm, wats new!
Anyway, after a nice tour of the Village, the community put on a wonderful display of dancing, drumming, and some role playing. Audience participation was encouraged, and Pat, Jeremy, and Lee did partake. A fun time.
An evening dinner of Oxtail, delicious! Complimented by farewell talk from the boat manager and a dance and drumming entertainment by the staff. Audience participation of course.
