11/9 – Bus to Victoria Falls 8:00am
Gathered at 8:00 am for our bus to the falls. Our guide provided a lot of historical information before taking us to the viewing sights. This is one of the Seven Wonders of the world. We are in the low water level of the season, so the falls are a little less full, even though this is considered the end of the rainy season. It takes several months for the connecting river waters to actually meet the falls. When totally at high water, viewing is extremely difficult due to the spay and perceived rain. So our guide says we are at the best possible time. Our walking tour included at least eight to ten viewing stops, all superb in their own way.
A superb lunch at the hotel. Followed by a 2:00pm pickup for a helicopter ride over the falls. A little pricy but, I guess market at $175/ea for a 15 min ride. Our ride pick up was prompt for 10 of us at 2pm .
The ride proved to be beautiful, giving us all a complete view of the Victoria Falls area. Only here once, so value considered ok. Back to our hotel around 3:30PM, Next, meet at 4:50pm for a Dinner Train ride.
The train (steam driven) was exquisite, much the same as everything we have experienced on this tour. Start with a greeting, open bar, snacks, and then off to a sunset ride. We cross the magnificent Victoria Bridge, built in the early 1900’s, connecting Zimbabwe to Zambia. Beautiful view of more falls and the Hydro Electric plants. Locals selling their wears, as they know of the regular tour route. They are persistent. Walking tour on the bridge.
Our return to the hotel included a “fine dinning” dinner, complete with live entertainment. Doesn’t get any better than this. Animal viewing in the wild routine now.
Bed felt good after a long but thrilling day, Weather has been perfect.
Tomorrow, we head for the Chobe River. A three day stay on a river boat.
