Arriving in Auckland, we had prearranged a Wine Tour on New Zealand’s “Island of Wines”, Waiheke Island. Mid morning we boarded a ferry for the island, a 30 minute ride. There we are greeted by our tour guide to visit 3 award winning wineries. Perfect climate for wine and we had a great day to tour. Tasting, lunch, and return to hotel by 5:00pm.
Morning a 8:00am group departure for “The Red Barn”. A local Dairy farm with about 500 head. Average size for this area. A full tour with a butter making experience before lunch. Used the butter on our Lunch bread. Fun!!
Next, we toured the famous movie set for the Hobbiton and The Lord of the Rings. 1,250 acres preserved for tourists. Green Dragon Inn, Mill, all as seen and created as The Shire from Middle-earth. Fun!! Afternoon we visited a unique geothermal area of Rotorua, active “Pacific Rim of Fire”.
