10/27 City Tour Cape Town / Wine Vinyard Lunch

A 9:30 am departure for a very nice City tour of Cape Town. Downtown, Parliament, and City Park, ie; “the Company Garden”. Albino Squirrel. Fast growth in the city, multi levels of residential wealth, Gov’t can’t keep up. Homeless and traffic problems. Still a very nice vibrant city. Electricity challenges. Freedom with a price. Nine or ten different languages in the country, English very dominant. Variations of African Dialogs. Very integrated society. Outside city proper a large concentration of “interim settlements” ie; Squatters / Shanty towns. Gov’t provides water, electric, and port-a-potties. Sad but they exist.

South Africa is about 8th in world for wine. Other significant Industry’s are agriculture, tourism, and Diamonds and gold.

From downtown tour we went to a Winery- Klein Goederust, for lunch and sampling. Beautiful setting. Great food. BBQ lamb. Private label wine. Tomorrow we head for Hermanus.
